Say hi to our trainee Tamika!

Tamika is a proud Gureng Gureng & Iman woman. She’s currently working as a medical reception trainee at our Woolloongabba clinic. After being in hospitality for years after finishing school she wanted to try something totally new that could lead into a career.

Our medical reception traineeship program was established to provide support and professional guidance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people interested in pursuing a career in administration and health within the health sector.

This year, three young people were successful in receiving a traineeship with ATSICHS. Each work at different clinics assisting the medical reception team.

Constantly learning, Tamika says she’s learnt so much about health, “the way the clinic runs and what goes on behind the desk. Everything is so interesting. I’m doing all sorts of things like booking appointments, billing patients, answering phones, there’s always something for me to do which is great. Keeps me busy! I’d love to study to learn more about health and potentially become a health worker one day.” If you see Tamika around, don’t be shy, say hi!
