Don’t let the flu get you

Getting your flu vaccination (shot) each year is the most important thing you can do to prevent the flu and its complications. We want to protect everyone – but particularly the most vulnerable people in our families and communities including people with chronic conditions such as heart disease, lung disease and diabetes, and older people. We can do this by reducing spread through the whole community.

Free flu shots are now available in all our clinics and are recommended for any person over 6 months of age.

Get a free Broncos, Titans, Lions, Cowboys, Suns or Deadly Choices BEANIE or SCARF with your flu shot

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Is it just one shot?

Yes, for older children and adults it’s one vaccination every year in Winter to protect against that year’s flu viruses. For young children having their very first flu vaccination, two doses are needed, four weeks apart. After that, they can just have one vaccination every year.

Why do I need it?

Anyone can get the flu.

The flu vaccine can:

• stop you from getting the flu
• make flu less severe if you do get it, and
• stop you from spreading it to your family and other people around you.

Are there side effects?

Sometimes there can be side effects.

Common side effects are:

• swelling, pain, redness at site of injection
• brief (1-2 days) mild flu symptoms including, aches and pains, or feeling feverish.

Uncommon side effects are:

  • rash, hives, itchy skin.

Rare side effects are:

  • severe allergic reaction, rare nerve conditions or blood problems.

It is important to answer the medical questions before the nurse or doctor gives you the vaccine. You will need to stay in the clinic for 15 minutes following the flu vaccine.
