ATSICHS Brisbane Jimbelunga IYHS

Brooke Frazer

Role at ATSICHS?
I am a Registered Nurse on the graduate program at Logan Clinic.

Career background?
I have been studying for the past three years and graduated last December 2019. I have had experience as a Assistant in Nursing through a nursing agency for one year and worked through Children’s Health Queensland as a Home Support Worker with children that are ventilated.

Where are you from/ What mob?
My father’s father is Torres Strait Islander.

What prompted you to get into your field?
I was diagnosed with an Auto Immune disease as a young child and was in and out of hospital since then. Luckily not so much now. I looked up to the nurses that looked after me as they truly cared for me and my health. I was inspired to be a nurse and have an impact on people’s lives just as much as the nurses had on my life.

What do you like most about your job?
That I am able to interact and help people in many ways. Making an impact on the health and lives of our community whether it is big or small. I also love when people say thank you which makes my job rewarding.

What does a typical day look like for you?
I come to work at the Logan clinic at 8:30am and shadow my nurses and help out in clinic until my own clients come in to see me. I am booked with appointments and consultations during the day but not too much yet so that I am able to get use to it. I finish up around 4:30pm and head home to my puppy and relax.

Hobbies outside of work?
My hobbies include going to the gym, cooking up a storm in the kitchen, playing volleyball and touch football with friends and spending time with family, friends and my puppy.
