ATSICHS Brisbane Jimbelunga IYHS

Catherine Lee

Role at ATSICHS ? Family Wellbeing Services Outreach Nurse

Career background?
I worked in East Arnhem Land NT, Kimberely WA, FNQ before moving to Brisbane. I’ve been fortunate to work in some very interesting roles.

Where are you from?
Originally a Queensland girl. My father was in the RAAF so we moved around every two years. I raised my children in Canberra.

What prompted you to get into your field?
Generational nursing had a big impact on me. I come from a long-line of nurses. I knew from the beginning of my studies that I was going to venture into challenging areas of non-traditional nursing roles.

What do you like most about your job?
The team I work with. They are my colleagues and my friends. They’re a dedicated bunch of people.

What does a typical day look like for you?
I don’t think I have a typical day – that’s why I like this job so much. My main role is to provide an outreach health service to vulnerable Family Wellbeing clients within the Brisbane area.

Who inspires you?
Anyone who faces insurmountable struggles in their personal lives and who continue to push-on and through, to make a better life for themselves – it’s stories like that which inspire me.

Hobbies outside of work?
I like fishing and camping and more travel is on my agenda. But I do like wasting time on the weekend sitting at a quaint café drinking good coffee.
