Celebrating 10 years of service: Community Liaison Jesse
This year a record-breaking number of staff reached a milestone year of service. To acknowledge their contributions we are going to be profiling each of them over the coming weeks so we can all learn what it is about the year 2015 that brought so many incredible people to this organisation.
First up is Community Liaison Jesse.
From her first day in administration at the Logan medical clinic to her current role as Community Liaison – School Programs with the Community Connections team, Jesse’s decade-long journey with ATSICHS Brisbane is a testament to dedication, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to community.
Her path has been rich and varied, beginning at Logan clinic in the CCSS team, supporting the school health check program with the Deadly Choices team, then moving into the Jajumbora Midwifery team at the Mums and Bubs clinic as the allied health care coordinator.
Her passion for community support led her to the Child and Family Centre in Waterford West, now the Jajumbora Children and Family Centre, where she worked closely with youth, NDIS, DV, FPP, and FWS programs. She later spent time with the dental team as a CLO, and transitioned to Loganlea medical clinic, also in the CLO role. Today, she continues to make an impact as a community liaison – school programs with the Community Connections team.
When asked about a standout achievement, she finds it hard to choose just one. “I’m proud of my work with the school health checks, linking families into services that can truly change lives. I also support our breast cancer awareness events which are vital in educating and empowering our women to prioritise their health.”
Over the years, and across her many roles, she admits she’s discovered a lot about herself. “I’ve learned that I thrive when I’m helping others and that I’m capable of adapting to many different roles while staying grounded in community support,” she said.
“Helping our vulnerable community access the support they need to take the next step toward a more prosperous future is what I enjoy the most about working for ATSICHS Brisbane.”
Among the many memorable moments of her 10 years with the organisation, there is one that particularly stands out for Jesse; when families come back to say thank you and knowing that our support has made a real difference in their lives. This feeds her motivation to continue working in a community controlled organisation, knowing that, “when we do our work well, it truly makes a difference for mob”.
“Throughout my time at ATSICHS Brisbane, Christine, Nicole, Joanne, Shanice, and Kylie have all been incredible sources of strength and support. They’ve always been there with a listening ear and wise guidance.”
And her advice to those just starting with ATSICHS Brisbane is simple, but powerful. “Keep asking questions. If you’re not growing, you’re not going. Talk with community, connect with internal and external services, and share your knowledge. You can’t be a master of none.”
Looking ahead, she hopes to continue building strong relationships and mentoring new staff.
“I want to keep bridging the gap between services and our mob, making it easier for people to access the help they need. Ultimately, I want to keep being a part of positive change, helping our community thrive, one connection at a time.”
