Charity golf day raises $10,000 for housing program

Our housing team Ngumpi Uruue will receive more than $10,000 thanks to a charity golf fundraiser held by Baidam Solutions and Cultural Cyber Security.

The funds garnered from the charity golf day will support our housing team’s work with women experiencing homelessness due to domestic and family violence. This includes getting more women and children into crisis accommodation and assisting those in the program with accessing household items. It will also help the team support sustainable tenancy and job prospects.

Badulaig man and co-founder of Baidam Solutions Jack Reis said in an interview with the National Indigenous Times that the fundraiser would also act to spark deeper societal conversation about domestic and family violence.

“We can’t bury our heads in the sand anymore as men,” he said.

ATSICHS Brisbane staff were represented on the day by Ngumpi Uruue Operations Manager Cody Meakin, IT Manager Jarryd Aleckson and IT Administrators Lucas Pengilly and Tayla Ward.

Cody also spoke with the National Indigenous Times about the value of support for the program.

“With our housing program, we approach it as a housing first model; where you get people into houses, then you can tap into those wraparound supports,” he said.

“While we’ve been operating a short time… having those internal referral pathways and very close case coordination means people aren’t slipping through the cracks. It’s about the whole family unit.”

Currently, our housing team manages 20 properties across the Brisbane and Logan region. The aim is to increase this to 1000 properties across South East Queensland over the next ten years.

The team provides short-term crisis and emergency accommodation, outreach support and wraparound services to women and children. They also work with clients to secure long-term housing and transition from this program.

The day was a great success and there are already plans to hold the event annually.
