Deadly Choices and Brisbane Broncos launch partnership for 2022
The Brisbane Broncos helped kick off the annual Deadly Choices partnership for 2022 with a launch at the Gabba this week.
It’s all part of our commitment to encourage young people to keep active and also stay healthy. The partnership with IUIH and its Deadly Choices program was celebrated at ATSICHS Brisbane with staff, community and the media.
Our CEO Renee Blackman spoke on the significance of the 11-year partnership and also its positive effect on the health outcomes of our community.
“The 715 health checks are crucial for our community. They help identify risk factors for chronic disease to manage good health,” Renee said.
The partnership between Deadly Choices and the Broncos has also played a key role in driving demand for preventative health care. It has contributed to an incredible 4000% increase in 715 health checks in South-East Queensland and the expansion of Deadly Choices across Queensland.
Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy said that the Deadly Choices program had made a real difference. He says they are proud of their partnership with the IUIH that now extends beyond a decade.
“As a footy club we aim to help grow our local communities. The Deadly Choices program does that on a daily basis. It also produces real results in improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.”
By prioritising healthy eating, exercise, the avoidance of tobacco and alcohol use, and ensuring individuals continue to complete their annual 715 health check, the club hope to foster future athletes with the calibre of Kotoni Staggs and Ezra Mam.
Deadly Choices Ambassadors Steve Renouf and Petero Civoniceva as well as current players, Kotoni Staggs, Ezra Mam and Tamika Upton were also in attendance, helping to unveil the new range of Broncos health check shirts.
The 2022 range features a distinctive retrospective look. The shirts celebrate some of the milestone occasions during the Broncos’ 30+ years in the NRL.
All eyes were on the Indigenous Round jersey created by local artist Elaine Chambers-Hegarty and worn by Ezra Mam. The teal coloured jersey inspired by the World Rugby Sevens Tournament in 1995 was also a hit.
