ATSICHS unveils 2022 NAIDOC artwork

In celebration of NAIDOC 2022 ATSICHS commissioned Quandamooka artist Casey Coolwell-Fisher to create an artwork that represented this year’s NAIDOC theme, Get Up, Stand Up Show Up.

Casey is a Quandamooka, Nunukul woman of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island, Qld) and runs the business Chaboo with her husband Roy Fisher, a Wakka Wakka man from Cherbourg, Queensland. They specialise in unique hand-painted Aboriginal home decor art, murals and graphic design pieces.

Inspired by the theme, Casey created the below logo to feature on our 2022 NAIDOC merchandise, which will be given out at community NAIDOC events.

Below is Casey’s artist statement about the artwork for ATSICHS Brisbane.

The fist holding onto the boomerang represents our strength through the 60,000+ years of solid power, returning to our people.

The circle element represents our Ancestors sharing their knowledge around a yarning circle, to help guide us through our tough time.
