2022 Queensland Murri Carnival kicks off
The 2022 Queensland Murri Rugby League Carnival is underway and the competition is heating up.
Held at the Redcliffe Dolphins Moreton Daily Stadium, this year’s QMC is bigger and better than ever. Our ATSICHS Brisbane teams are ready to get some tries on the board.
Browns Plains Community Liaison Officer and coach of our under 14s team Ray Nagas said he’s excited to be out at the Redcliffe stadium again.
“It’s a fantastic venue out here. There’s a bit of hype this year too now that the Dolphins are entering the NRL competition for 2023. It’s great to see all our young fullas out here excited to be playing on professional grounds”, Mr Nagas said.
We sponsored four teams in this year’s competition, under 14s, 16s and 18s boys and an under 17s girls’ team.
“They’re all ATSICHS Brisbane clients, mainly from around the Logan area. But we’ve also got some Northside boys that utilise our services in the teams”, Mr Nagas said.
“It’s the third year in a row that our under 14 boys have competed. This means we have a good base of about 15 or 16 boys each year. We’re always open to new players though. Happy to help out anyone who doesn’t have a team and give a boy a run”.
Manager of our under 16s ATSICHS Young Guns team Grant Breuer is also incredibly proud of how his team is performing in the competition so far.
“We ran through about half a dozen training sessions in the lead up to this year’s competition. These were at a range of different fields around Ipswich, Logan and also Inala. We just really wanted to get the boys prepared and ready for the week”, he said.
“This is my second year at Queensland Murri Carnival and it’s been fantastic so far. It’s great that we don’t have COVID hanging over our heads as much this year. I’ve noticed there seems to be a lot more teams here and everyone is really keen to get out there on the field”.
The carnival ends Sunday 2 October with the Senior Games bringing the event to a close.
