Brisbane Broncos and Deadly Choices launch 2023 partnership
This week we hosted the official launch of the 2023 partnership between Deadly Choices and the Brisbane Broncos.
Current NRL players Ezra Mam and Kotoni Staggs and NRLW player Tallisha Harden came along to help show off this year’s shirt. The shirt was designed by Casey Coolwell-Fisher of Chaboo Designs.
Proud Torres Strait Islander man with connection to the Kuku-Yalanji people of North Queensland, Ezra Mam said that Deadly Choices is all about creating an environment that allows you to live longer.
“Eating healthy, exercising daily, keeping away from alcohol and tobacco, turning up for school every day and also listening to your parents,” said Mam.
The Deadly Choices program has worked successfully for more than a decade. It helps to promote positive messages and also close the gap in health outcomes among Australia’s Indigenous populations.
Deadly Choices Ambassador and Wiradjuri man Kotoni Staggs said it’s great that the young ones now have these opportunities available to them.
“When I was growing up, I never had anyone come up and talk to me about living a healthy life and the also choices you make to ensure you stay on the right track,” he said.
“I’m proud to play my part as a Brisbane Broncos Deadly Choices Ambassador.”
NRL legend Steve Renouf emceed the event, also speaking to the crowd about the positive impact DC has in community. DC Ambassadors and former NRL stars Petero Civoniceva and Tyrone Roberts were also in attendance. They spoke about the success DC has had in promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting community members to access health services like the ones here at ATSICHS Brisbane.
It was great to have our Elders from our Logan men’s group come along and join in on the event, as well as seeing the big smiles from our Gabba clinic’s jarjums.
