Jajumbora CFC welcomes new team member

Say hello to Emily, a proud Kooma woman and our new administration support officer at Jajumbora CFC! Emily is your first point of contact for all things CFC and Deadly Kindy, and we’re excited to have her on board.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Emily and I am a proud Kooma woman. Unfortunately, most of the knowledge of my heritage and mob has been lost in time but I am slowly learning more about my family the Sheridans, our origins in Bollon, and my heritage.

How long have you been at ATSICHS?

Not very long, I have been here for almost 2 months now and I’m loving every minute.

Why did you want to work for ATSICHS?

I wanted a role where I could help people. I worked for many years in childcare caring for children ages 0-4 and loved it but it was such a hands on role that I felt I needed a break. I’m really passionate about working with children though so I went looking for something still working alongside children but supporting them in a different way. This is when I came across ATSICHS and I immediately knew this was the place for me. I love how te team here support each and every person and we work hard to not only promote each person’s identity throughout the centre but also engage them in fun, amazing and educational programs to support all ages!

Can you tell us more about your role at Jajumbora CFC?

I am an admin support officer so I assist everyone in the team in anyway I can. With my background in early childhood education I also have the responsibility of supporting our Deadly Kindy team with enrolments, assisting with kindy inquiries and administrative tasks. I also love to get my hands messy and enjoy getting involved in the programs too.

What is the most rewarding part of your role?

Being able to help everyone no matter what they need, there is always somewhere we can send you or someone who can help here at the CFC.

Why did you choose to work in early childhood?

I love children, I always have. I was always the person at family gatherings enjoying spending time with the kids more than the adults, being able to just be a child myself at times.

What is your favourite program at Jajumbora CFC and why?

It’s so hard to choose one! I love the mothercraft program because I get to spend time with mothers and their beautiful bubs, I love the women’s group and being able to chat to all the lovely ladies and get creative but I also love the Elders group and being fortunate to hear their stories. I alos love messy play group because who doesn’t enjoy watching kids learning and discovering new things with all the textures and ingredients?

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love camping and four wheel driving with my partner. We go often but with all the cold months we have been staying home recently and I’m keen to get back into it. Other than camping I love nothing more than curling up in bed and enjoying a good movie and some yummy snacks.

If you were an animal which animal would you be and why?

Probably a dog, I am loyal and loving and enjoy being around people.
