Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Growing up as one of seven children in Logan Central, formerly known as Woodridge, I developed a deep connection to my community from a young age. With five brothers and one sister, my upbringing was filled with the importance of family and support.

I was fortunate to witness my parents’ dedication to our mob. My mother devoted her time to caring for the community by being part of my school’s ATSI committee and still reads Dreamtime stories to children at our local primary school. My father, Vincent Watego, a past ATSICHS Brisbane worker, also worked closely with his brothers to run a program called TRYP. This program was designed to help disadvantaged Indigenous youth who were getting into trouble to reach their potential and effect change in themselves, their family, their workplace, and their community. These early influences inspired me to give back in my own way.

How long have you been at ATSICHS Brisbane?

Starting my journey as a receptionist at the Mums and Bubs clinic, now known as the Jajumbora BIOC Hub, I’ve had the privilege of serving the community for nearly a decade. Over the years, I’ve worked alongside various teams, including NDIS, Family Participation Program, Family Wellbeing, Youth, Jajumbora midwives, and Dental services. Each role has deepened my commitment to making a difference and ensuring our community has access to the care and support they need.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is witnessing the positive changes in our community. Whether it’s kids seeking me out at school for their health checks or seeing families come in happy, healthy, and thriving, these moments remind me of the impact we can have.

What is your favorite sport and team?

Outside of work, I’m an avid supporter of the North Queensland Cowboys, proudly cheering them on every chance I get. My husband shares my passion for the team, and he is one of the administrators of the North Queensland Stampede fan page on Facebook, which has an impressive 49,000 members.

What do you enjoying doing outside of work?

In my free time, I love spending time with my family, whether we’re sharing a meal, watching a movie, or going camping—I’m always up for it! I also enjoy reading and building Lego, especially anything related to Marvel, Harry Potter, and Disney. My love for these worlds led me to travel to Comic-Con San Diego in 2018, and I’ve visited three of the seven Disneyland parks: Paris, California, and Japan.

Is there anything you want to say to people looking to work here at ATSICHS Brisbane?

For those considering a career with ATSICHS Brisbane, know that this work is more than a job—it’s a chance to be part of something bigger. It’s an opportunity to make real, lasting changes in your community. If you’re passionate about helping others and want to see your community thrive, this is the place where you can truly make a difference.
