New program helps community transition to human services

We’re very excited to launch the new POODMARE-BA program.

The human services program was created to assist recruitment into ATSICHS Brisbane’s Family Wellbeing Service and Youth teams.

ATSICHS Brisbane CEO Renee Blackman said the new program was an innovative way to support mob wanting to make a career change and also make a difference.

“We’re here to help mob interested in making a career shift to community services but don’t have the qualifications, experience and/or confidence to make the move,” Renee said.

“Whether applicants have experience working in a different industry or would like to work after raising children, this program recognises past skills.

“We will provide on-the-job training giving the participant the chance to complete formal qualifications.

“Most importantly, you will be working to help support our families and also children in a rewarding career.”

POODMARE-BA (pronounced pood-mair-ba the ‘’oo” as in wood) translates as “to lift up”. Lift to new levels of learning, growth and work experiences, and skills are enhanced professionally, economically, personally and also social-culturally.

Special thanks go to Aunty Kerry Charlton for assisting us with the name of the program. We acknowledge Yuggera people, history, country and elders and we are honoured to have a Yuggera name for our program. It represents our vision to create opportunity for Mob in the Meanjin and also Logan regions.
