Celebrating Queensland Women’s Week with Practice Support Supervisor Janice
It’s Queensland Women’s Week and to celebrate we caught up with Woolloongabba Practice Support Supervisor Janice to find out more about her role and why she loves working for ATSICHS Brisbane.
Tell us a bit about yourself
I am a proud Gubbi Gubbi and Butchulla woman and I grew up in Mt Isa. I’m the mother of two beautiful children, one boy aged 7 and a girl aged 11 months and I am engaged to be married. I also have a beautiful dog as well a part of my little family.
I’m a middle child, one of three in my family and an ex elite athlete. I represented Australia in softball for almost 10 years and represented Queensland for over 10. I also played professionally overseas and was a Deadly Choices Ambassador.
How long have you worked at ATSICHS?
Three months so far and absolutely love it.
What do you love about working here?
I love how comforting and cosy our clinic is. Our clients can sit down and have a cuppa with some bikkies and relax in our waiting room. We have our regular clients who come in all the time and are just beautiful to be around.
I also really enjoy how busy it is. I never really notice how busy the clinic can get because I’m just enjoying it so much.
Why did you decide to work here?
I love being able to help my mob in any sort of capacity. I wouldn’t have thought that my background in professional sport could help me as a practice support supervisor but my strengths definitely suit the role I’m in.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love going to the beach with my family, working out and keeping fit, sketching and painting and just spending time with my family.
If you have one wish for your people/mob, what would it be?
I wish we didn’t lose so much of our culture. I know that culture is still present but so much has been lost and I believe that fuels our mob’s fight for change.
