Meet our new Senior Early Childhood Educator Andrew

Andrew Burnett joined the team in July as our new Senior Early Childhood Educator at Deadly Kindy Gundoo Mirra.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Andrew and I am Aboriginal with links to the Rosewoood Scrub. I have been working with children professionally for over 15 years. I have worked with a variety of children of different ages, cultures and backgrounds. Some of the areas that I have worked in include Outside School Hours Care, Vacation and Long Day Care.

How long have you been at ATSICHS Brisbane?

My journey with ATSICHS Brisbane has just started. I went through the induction process in July. Everyone has been so welcoming.

Can you tell us more about your new role?

I saw a great opportunity to be a part of an organisation that supports community and provides opportunities for growth. In my role I will assist others to provide a structured program that is highly educational and interesting.

What are you looking forward to most in your new role?

I am excited to be a part of the team and I look forward to building relationships and partnerships with families and community and helping make a difference in the lives of the children. I believe in creating a better future for our children and providing opportunities for them to grow as they become life-long learners. I am also looking forward to the opportunities that the new role brings to learn about myself, develop my confidence and share my skills with others.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I am a member of the Brisbane Toy Community and enjoy going to local events where I can socialise with like-minded people and extend and share my knowledge with others. I love being in and connecting with nature.

If you were an animal, which animal would you be and why?

I would be an eagle. It has always been the image I have resonated with. I have always liked eagles, they are so majestic. There are many phrases regarding eagles but the one that has stayed with me most of my life is, “Only those who fly high can land on a mountain top!”.

What is your most unique talent?

I am a musician, singer/songwriter and I enjoy developing my writing and musical skills. I play a variety of instruments, including guitar, vocals and percussion.
